Annual Wellness Exams
Our healthcare providers recommend getting an Annual Wellness Exam once a year as part of your preventative care plan.

What is an Annual Wellness Exam?
Annual physicals such as annual wellness visits, fall under preventative care.
Preventative care is an in-depth review of your growth, development, sleep, nutrition, and general health.
Some physicals or annual wellness exams may require you to receive vaccines during your visit.
What are the benefits of preventative care?
- Disease prevention
- Disease management
- Managing high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Preventing and managing diabetes
As a part of your annual wellness visit we offer a physical exam, a discussion of changes to your body (concerns), and lab testing for diseases such as diabetes and hypo/hyperthyroidism.

Hypertension
Hypertension, otherwise known as chronic high blood pressure is a serious condition without treatment and diligent management.
Primary hypertension
For most adults, blood pressure may increase gradually and develop over many years with age.
Secondary hypertension
This type of hypertension is caused by an underlying condition. This type of high blood pressure tends to appear suddenly and cause higher blood pressure than primary hypertension.
Why is high blood pressure bad?
Not managing high blood pressure increases your risk for several health problems. Hypertension can increase your risk of stroke and heart attacks, and can severely affect your kidneys.

Type II Diabetes
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is when your body does not create sufficient insulin to control blood sugar. Type 2 diabetes develops over time, when the body incrementally loses the ability to manage blood sugar.
Why does diabetes need to carefully managed?
Like other chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes can have harmful effects on your general health. Left untreated, diabetes can have very harmful effects, such as blindness, increased risk of stroke, and neuropathy (full or partial loss of limbs).

Thyroid Health
What is a thyroid and what does it do?
The thyroid is an important gland that controls almost all metabolic hormones in your body. These hormones affect energy, growth, and metabolism throughout your body.
Understanding thyroid disorders
When the thyroid is over/underproducing hormones, problems can occur. Thyroid disorders are very common and are treatable.
Some signs of thyroid disorders are high heart rate, a detrimental amount energy (whether too much or too little), anxiety, hot/cold flashes, excessive and unexplainable weight gain or loss.

Medical History
This section of the examination includes questions about:
- Relevant personal medical history (surgeries)
- Current medications
- Chronic health conditions (i.e. asthma or diabetes)
- Allergies
- Symptoms of chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath with or without activity
The medical history may be discussed during your visit with you healthcare provider.

Physical Exam
During the physical portion of the exam, the doctor will typically:
- Current height and weight
- Blood pressure and pulse
- Vision and Hearing testing
- Movement, flexibility, and strength assessment of joints.
- Cardiac, pulmonary, & neurologic physical exam
Most annual visits are not completely comprehensive. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to ask your provider.

Cognitive Evaluation
You may be asked to do a cognitive evaluation as part of your physical exam.
We use a rapid and reliable cognitive health technology designed to objectively evaluate cognitive function.
